CGMconvert is a program for converting graphical metafiles in theComputer Graphics Metafile (CGM) format, the ISO standard format forgraphical interchange, from one of the standardized CGM encodings toanother. The binary encoding of CGM, for example, is the most widely usedfor interchange, but it is difficult to work with. CGMconvert willfaithfully convert binary metafiles to clear text metafiles, which can beviewed, edited in normal text editors, and transmitted via electronicmail.CGMconvert is a complete implementation of the CGM standard, includingall three standard encodings (binary, character, and clear text), and allCGM elements. It supports the translation of CALS-compliant (MIL-D-28)metafiles as well.CGMconvert is available only as a command line interface program. It maybe invoked directly and interactively by users, as well as spawned fromscript files or executing programs. CGMconvert can function as outputeither to a file or "stdout". This enables it to be easily integratedinto applications with complex scripts for graphical data flow andconversion.
